About Joe
Joseph G. Scotillo, of Crystal Lake, IL was born on September 23, 1921 in Chicago, IL to the late John and Mary (Basile) Scotillo. He passed away at Good Shepherd Hospital on April 11, 2009.
He graduated from Austin High School and Weeden’s Barber College. He moved to Crystal Lake in 1950 and worked as a barber. He founded Joe’s Barber Shop at 29 N. Williams Street, Crystal Lake. He retired from the barbershop in 1987. The barbershop he founded still bears his name.
He served in the U.S. Army in World War II in Italy and Egypt, acting as a translator.
He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church and the American Legion. He also served on the Crystal Lake Fire and Police Commission for many years.
He resided in the house he built in 1957 on Dole Avenue until his death.
He is missed by his family and friends.
